Dr Sanjay Kumar is Chief Scientist and Head, Metal Extraction & Recycling Division. He is having 27 years of R&D experience in various capacities in the area of recycling and waste utilization. He initiated fly ash based geopolymer research in India, set up first geopolymer pilot plant and transferred first geopolymer technology in India. He is Fellow of Indian Institute of Ceramics and Visiting Researcher, University of Miskolc, Hungary. He is on Editorial Board of Transaction of Indian Ceramic Society (Tailor & Francis), & Frontiers in Chemistry Journal. He is In the international reviewer board of Russian Academy of Sciences. He is also Convener, Multi Institutional Multi Industries Project on Holistic Utilization of Red Mud, Nodal Coordinator, CSIR sub-vertical on Strategic Metals, Coordinator, Umbrella program on E-waste Management and Coordinator, Critical Metal Extraction Project under Bulk Chemical Mission of CSIR. He has Edited 1 book, authored 3 book chapters, published 130 papers with 5700 citations and filed 25 patents in the area of recycling and waste utilization. He has mentored 1 Post Doc and Guided 5 Ph.D students. He has executed 6 Govt funded, 38 Industry Sponsored and 5 International collaborative projects as PI and Co-PI.
